Zoo to honor volunteers
On Saturday, March 10, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Friends of the Zoo will be honoring Jean Curtis and all of the zoo volunteers who have helped to make the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens the “Crown Jewel of the Pacific.”
Jean Curtis’ (1947-2009) was a major contributor, first as a docent and later as president of FOZ, for more than a decade.
All zoo volunteers and FOZ members, past and present, are invited to come and share in a potluck lunch at 11 a.m. with entertainment to follow.

Center closing for renovations
The Wailoa Art and Cultural Center has been closed for renovations as the center continues installing new electrical wiring, painting the building inside and out, fixing the interior fountain and refinishing the floors in the office, Fountain Gallery and outside lanai.
Due to delays in electrical work, the ever-popular Wood Turners Exhibit for the month of March, including the opening reception scheduled for today, has been postponed.
“After exploring alternative ways to open the display, safety concerns and not being able to provide the viewer with a satisfactory experience contributed to the decision to cancel the exhibit,” according to a statement from the Wailoa Center.

Pohakuloa to open for hunting
The Pohakuloa Training Area will open several areas to hunting on Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4.
On Saturday, Training Areas 1-4 will be open from 5 a.m.-7 p.m. for spring bearded turkey hunting.
On Sunday, Training Areas 1-4 and 9-16 will be open from 5 a.m.-7 p.m. for bow hunting of mammals.
No early access to hunting areas is permitted. Hunters must check out by 7 p.m. each day.
PTA is dry and fires can start easily. No smoking or open flames are allowed in all training and hunting areas
